A true tale of twins growing up with Cerebral Palsy
One of Two is an absurdly funny show that focuses on the significance of human connection, and the integral effect it can have on our lives. Centered around the unique bond he shares with his twin sister Bec, Jack embarks upon a journey of self discovery from prenatal to postnatal, to find his sole place in the universe.
Although personal at its core this show sets to playfully question common perceptions and misconceptions about disability within today’s “alien” non disabled world.
Trapped in the bathroom with an evil tattie, Jack wrestles with the reality of living alone. Jack Hunter’s inspiring* debut comedy is full of heart and a half empty bag of Weetos.

Audio Description
One of Two has a modest set, what do you expect in grizzly non-profit fringe theatre? I am Jack and I am the only person who is ever on stage. You will hear my sister Bec and a couple of other bit part voices but it is just me padding about in the space. We are in Old Lab in Summerhall which is a blacked out simple space – there’s no curtain or anything as fancy as a theatre wing for me to emerge from. I will be on stage as the audience arrives. I am wearing jeans, a Beck t-shirt with a donkey’s face on it and at the start my trusty cardigan.
I’m moving house you see so everything is in a bit of disarray. On the right hand side of the stage, to the back corner, there is a clothes rail with a white sheet draped over it. This is where I project photos of me and Bec from an old style OHP, overhead projector, that sits on the floor. Videos and other images also appear here. The other star of the show – Darth Vader Potato Head sits on the top of OHP contraption. He is just what you imagine, a plastic potato head dressed up as Darth Vader.
Apart from that the set is some boxes kicking about in the darkness and on the far left a mic stand that I go to perform at sometimes. On the far left of the stage there is the captioning screen on top of a wooden bathroom storage tower – this is where my wise words appear for anyone who can’t hear me. There is not much visual action on stage but there are a few photos that are projected at times and audio description of these images has been integrated into the script.

Captions are provided at every performance of One of Two. The best views of the captioning screen are on stage right, or on the left side of the auditorium when you are facing the stage.
Relaxed performance
The performance of One of Two on Tuesday 23rd August will be Relaxed.
One of Two is a solo performance starring Jack Hunter as himself, with audio and video content of his sister Bec. It is a narrative driven production that has a running time of 55 minutes with no interval. The set remains the same throughout the production, this set is described in the Audio Description section above. Towards the end of the production, Jack does get quite angry.
Due to the nature of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, it has not been possible to provide many of the resources that may be expected of a Relaxed performance but we are able to:
- The venue capacity has been capped at 50%. This is usually 92, so will be 46 for the Relaxed performance.
- The house lights will remain on low throughout the performance
- Sound effects will be lower – please be aware that sound effects include: buzzers, alarms and other quite loud noises
- There is some use of a smoke machine throughout the performance
- Audience members will be free to leave and re-enter the venue as they wish
- We will provide Sensory Bags to any audience members who might find them useful. They contain ear defenders and stim devices
- We regret that we are unable to provide a chill out space

Production Story
Jack Hunter
Jack Hunter graduated from the BA (Hons) Drama and Performance at Queen Margaret University in 2017. In recent years, he has sought further his development as an actor and writer.
In 2021, Jack wrote One of Two as part of his time on the Playwright Studio and Birds of Paradise Theatre Disabled Playwright Award.
