BOP Writers Showcase 2023

The BOP Writers Showcase 2023 presented new works by 12 emerging disabled writers who participated in the BOP Writers programme over the year.

The Mary Dick Award supports UK-based d/Deaf or disabled artists, providing funding, mentoring, and a slot in Edinburgh Fringe’s Summerhall program.

Project

BOP × Nepal

BOP collaborates with Diverse Patterns in Nepal to enhance arts accessibility for disabled individuals. The current UNWRAP project will involve remote workshops and lead to a groundbreaking production in 2025 focused on representation and access for disabled artists.

Creative Licht

Creative Licht brings together BSL/English Interpreters working in Scotland with those working in the creative industries, with the ambition of developing and improving approaches to interpreted performance.

Research

BOP focuses on formalizing learning through research, benefiting from both successes and failures. Upcoming projects include AHRC-funded Telepresence Stage and ongoing exploration of digital access, particularly for disabled artists.

House Lights Up!

The House Lights Up! project aimed to explore the provision of relaxed performances for neurodivergent audiences in Scotland, addressing barriers, sharing insights, and fostering accessibility in the arts sector following pandemic disruptions.

BOP Young Artists

BOP Young Artists, part of Birds of Paradise Theatre Company, supports young disabled creatives, offering skill development, opportunities and artistic community.

BOP Writers

BOP Writers offers a supportive environment for disabled playwrights to develop their skills through collaborative sessions. Facilitated by Nelly Kelly, it welcomes writers regardless of experience, focusing on accessibility and mutual support.

BOP Youth Arts Online

BOP Youth Arts Online is a free social space for disabled* young people aged 13-18 across Scotland, hosted online and facilitated by professional disabled artists.

School & Family Resources

The Super Special Disability Roadshow film features Rob and Sal, two disabled individuals, discussing accessibility and disability experiences in schools. The resources on this page encourage conversations and actions to enhance accessibility for all.
